Juneteenth & a Revisit to History - D-Day & Harry T Moore

Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Juneteenth marks the anniversary of the announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union Army general Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865, proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas. Originating in Galveston, the holiday has been celebrated annually on June 19 in various parts of the United States since the 1860s, often broadly celebrating African-American culture. The day was first recognized as a federal holiday in June 2021, when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law.

Early celebrations date to 1866, at first involving church-centered community gatherings in Texas. They spread across the South and became more commercialized in the 1920s and 1930s, often centering on a food festival. Participants in the Great Migration out of the South carried their celebrations to other parts of the country. During the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, these celebrations were eclipsed by the nonviolent determination to achieve civil rights, but grew in popularity again in the 1970s with a focus on African American freedom and African-American arts. Beginning with Texas by proclamation in 1938, and by legislation in 1979, each U.S. state and the District of Columbia have formally recognized the holiday in some way. With its adoption in certain parts of Mexico, the holiday became an international holiday. Juneteenth is celebrated by the Mascogos, descendants of Black Seminoles who escaped from slavery in 1852 and settled in Coahuila, Mexico.

Celebratory traditions often include public readings of the Emancipation Proclamation, singing traditional songs such as "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" and "Lift Every Voice and Sing", and the reading of works by noted African-American writers, such as Ralph Ellison and Maya Angelou. Some Juneteenth celebrations also include rodeos, street fairs, cookouts, family reunions, park parties, historical reenactments, and Miss Juneteenth contests. In 2021, Juneteenth became the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was adopted in 1983.

Max Feinstein - No Obstacles will Stop Him - Pushing Past the Limits

Max Feinstein is a New Jersey based Singer and Guitarist who combines elements of Alternative, Grunge, and Psychedelic Rock on his new single, Borderlines, out October 27th. Borderlines was written along with the rest of Feinstein’s upcoming album, Redefine, during the heart of the COVID-19 lockdown while undergoing intensive physical therapy in order to avoid major surgery to replace his right elbow which had been ravaged by the effects of severe Hemophilia over his life. “I was told about a decade ago that my elbow was ‘bone on bone’ from years of bleeding into it and that there was nothing they could do for me, so I kept going while living with constant pain.. now I’m in less pain, but it’s because I just kept wearing away at the bone, so I have a hole in my elbow now. The doctor was baffled at how I’m able to move the way I do without screaming”

In contrast to his previous single, Dear Anxious, which championed an uplifting tenderness and celebrated the direct and cathartic sounds of Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and John Mayer, Borderlines represents a more aggressive and progressive sound inspired by the likes of Soundgarden, The Mars Volta, and a Norwegian Supergroup called Kitchie Kitchie Ki Me O who blended Indie Rock and World Music on their debut album, which Max had the opportunity of watching them record at Water Music in Hoboken, NJ. Borderlines also carries a different intention than Dear Anxious. “While my first single was a statement of intention, an introduction to what I’m about and a call to action for my bleeding disorder community and really anyone to stop running and start sharing, Borderlines is the start of my journey, the acknowledgement and breaking of inertia and the effort it takes. I want to showcase myself warts and all, and that includes the worst of my depression and rage, because my story is not an uncommon one for people who face challenges of their physical and mental health.

Accompanying the single is the first music video of Feinstein’s career, a deeply confessional video shot by CourTney Collins. “It’s kind of like rubbing my nose in my past transgressions and the worst aspects of my personality. It’s uncomfortable how familiar the elements portrayed in this video felt, because they were all familiar and not entirely exaggerated takes on events in my life, things I’ve put other people through as a result of my trip. I’m not proud of that, and this video is something of a reckoning and acknowledgement of those less virtuous facets of who I am. I know that others who struggle with their mental and physical health are going to relate to this.”  Visit his website at https://www.maxfeinstein.com

Arizona Lindsey - Healing Trauma through Music

“The Process” takes listeners through the journey of someone who is struggling with the lasting imprints of complex trauma (also known as chronic trauma) and then through the journey of entering into the trauma recovery process. Now available on all music streaming platforms, “The Process” tackles topics ranging from suicide ideation, disordered eating, and domestic abuse to suicide prevention, self-acceptance, and the rebuilding of self-esteem and hope. The concept album leaves the listener with a wholesome, emotional, and cathartic experience.

Arizona released “The Process’s” bonus track “Worth the Fight”. Featuring legendary artist Darryl McDaniels of RunDMC, Ari writes a song dedicated to National Suicide Prevention Month.

In support of her recent album “The Process”, Arizona originally released her single “Anxiety” in February 2020. They followed up the release with a live performance and media tour including but not limited to: The Grindhouse Radio, (iHeartRadio), WUSB 90.1 FM and WHPC 90.3 FM (where “Anxiety” had been receiving regular airplay). Continuing her tour schedule prior to the pandemic – Lindsey made many appearances throughout New York (encompassing the Hudson Valley and Westchester County regions, Brooklyn, and Long Island) as well as Virginia (Richmond and Fredericksburg) and New Orleans, LA. Ari was nominated for two NY Readers’ Choice Awards in the 2020 Chronogram Magazine: “Readers’ Choice of Activist/Advocate and Local Artist” while out garnering new fans in the Mid-West. It’s no wonder that Arizona Lindsey has been captivating audience’s attention worldwide since the debut of her album “The Castle You Built Me” released in July 2018 to critical acclaim. She approaches her music with a sweet-sounding voice, passionate vocal performances, and powerful, heartfelt lyricism.

As a passionate mental health advocate and growing public figure, Lindsey also works to de-stigmatize mental health - promoting wellness and empowerment. She aims to reach others about these important messages through her lyrics as she writes about mental health as well as conducts open conversations with her fan base on social media. She speaks openly to her audience about her goals and experiences, stating, “I want to open conversation in communities about mental health, wellness, and how to build stronger support systems. No matter what it is you are going through, you’re never alone. It does get better, but it’s certainly a process. My work as an advocate and artist is to help people through that process; for the good parts and the really challenging ones.” Arizona is now an official affiliate with “Beauty After Bruises”, a non-profit affiliation geared at helping trauma survivors, and “Rethink Stigma” non-profit organization focused at bringing psychoeducation to the public through a series of platforms.  Visit Arizona Lindsey at https://www.arizonalindsey.com
